When I was in grade school One of my classmate’s dad was a dentist He would bring mercury to class And we couldn’t resist He’d give us each a glob And what fun we had Watching it perform No thought that it could be bad You could coat a penny with it Would turn silver right on the spot Like a giant amoeba Shape shifting a lot Watch it roll down our desk tops On clay paths we’d create Such a curious element But with a dangerous fate If it fell it would splatter But you could reunite all the drops Bring it all back together A resurrected cyclops Never knew of the danger Couldn’t resist that mercury Give it a retro grade of “F” Never knew how dangerous it could be .
