Both my brother and I always had An idealized connection to the sea Perhaps in another life We’d have adventured out of port to be A sailor lad or cabin boy A lookout to call “Ship Ahoy!” An able bodied seaman who Could do all the things that sailors do For a time my brother was a sailmaker His own business in a seaside town Could make a ditty bag or a spinnaker Had sailed with our dad when he was still around I had less connection but loved to read Books about adventures out at sea Growing up near San Francisco Bay Maybe that got the best of me Huzza My heart it leaps for joy To think I might have been a sailor boy .
Reminds me of the first time I came to San Diego and saw the ocean.
I had Huzza in my heart for sure!
Beautiful art by your sister-in-law!
Sea adventures are one of my favorite reads, too. Some of the best written by Farley Mowat. vjw
